Outdoor Meetings 2017


The following events are scheduled, but some details may change. Please check this page in the run-up to events or confirm by emailing the organiser of each meeting.

With the exception of the June event, which will be shorter, each meeting will last 2-3 hours. Please email the organiser if you require more exact timings.

The events are free to members, but there will be a £2.00 fee for non-members.


Sunday February 26th
Keyhaven
Winter birds of the coastal marshes. Meet at 9:00. Please email David Taylor for details.


Sunday April 23rd
Stanpit Marsh
Migrant waders and passerines. Meet at 16:30 at Stanpit recreation ground car park. Please email Nick Whitehouse if you have any questions.


Saturday May 27th
Acres Down
Summer visitors, such as Redstart and Willow Warbler, as well as possibility of Goshawk and Honey Buzzard. Meet at 7:30am. Please email Nick Whitehouse for details. Please note the meeting point for this will be Millyford Bridge car park at SU267078.


Friday June 2nd
Burton Common
Nightjar and Woodcock. Meet at 20:30 in car park at SZ190959. Please email

Sunday August 27th
Stanpit Marsh
Autumn waders. Meet at 17:30 at Stanpit recreation ground. Please email

Sunday September 10th
Hengistbury Head – Members’ Day
Includes ringing demonstration and guided walk. From 06:30am at the HHVC. Ringing demonstration runs from 6:30 and a guided walk around Wick starts at 8:30. Please email

Sunday November 26th
Mudeford Sandspit
A morning of seawatching and looking for waders on Mudeford Sandspit. Meet at 7:30 by the Hengistbury Head Visitor Centre for a walk through the woods, where we may chance on winter specialities such as Firecrest. Once at the sandspit, there will be a number telescopes and guides to see if we can pick out sea duck, such as Common Scoter, Purple Sandpiper on the rock groynes and even passing divers. You may want to bring a flask and a packed breakfast, as there will be plenty of time to settle down and look for birds or just enjoy the waves.
