Outdoor Meetings for 2021


General Information

The following events are scheduled, but some details may change. Please check this page in the run-up to events or confirm by emailing the organiser of each meeting.

Most meetings will last 2-3 hours, but please email the organiser if you require more exact timings.

The events are free to members, but there will be a £2.00 fee for non-members.

Sunday April 25th 2021    FULLY BOOKED
Spring Migrants at Hengistbury Head
A morning’s birdwatching walk on Hengistbury Head for Spring highlights. Meet at 8.30am at the Hengistbury Head Visitor Centre. Duration 2.5 hours with the option to leave earlier if wished. This event will be organised with the Rule-of-6 in mind – one leader/and five attendees in single groups. Each group will follow in turn around the route, a few minutes’ apart. To register, please email Nick Whitehouse. CHOG intends restricting this opening event to a maximum of four such small groups, allowing for 20 attendees plus CHOG leaders.

The New Forest

Keyhaven and Pennington Marsh
Meet in the pay-and-display car park by The Gun pub in Keyhaven for a walk to the Keyhaven and Pennington lagoons. The meeting starts at 9:00 and finishes by 12:00. Note, there is no longer any free parking in the area. To register, please email Nick Whitehouse...


Saturday 21st August 2021
Durlston Country Park, Swanage
This is a two-part event. A ringing demonstration by the Stour Ringing Group will be carried out from 07:00 to 08:45; then from 09:00, prompt, to 11:30, there will be a guided walk to search out migrant birds along the coastal area. You are welcome to arrive at any time before 09:00 and take part in just one or both of the parts. Saturday 4th September 2021
Members’ Day
This year also includes the opening of a new bird hide at Hengistbury Head - a chance to see the hide and acknowledge those who have made it possible. The morning will run as follows.
06:30 to 10:00:    Ringing demonstration in the garden of the Visitors’ Centre
09:30 to 11:00:    Guided walk, ending at the hide in the Nursery
11:00:                   Opening and a chance to see the hide

Car Sharing - currently suspended due to Coronavirus

Several members have asked about car sharing on outdoor meetings. Where possible we will be pleased to arrange this for a limited number of places on each occasion. Please contact Nick Whitehouse well in advance of each meeting, so that numbers and pick up locations can be organised. Otherwise the RV will be as indicated on the website.
