Outdoor Meetings 2018
The following events are scheduled, but some details may change. Please check this page in the run-up to events or confirm by emailing the organiser of each meeting.
With the exception of the June event, which will be shorter, each meeting will last 2-3 hours. Please email the organiser if you require more exact timings.
The events are free to members, but there will be a £2.00 fee for non-members.
The Weymouth area. Meet at 9:00 by the Dorset Wildlife Trust Centre at Ferrybridge, from where we will look for divers, grebes and ducks in Portland Harbour. After that, we will visit one or both of the RSPB reserves – Radipole and Lodmoor – where a particular target will be Bearded Tit. The meeting will finish around 13:00. Warblers on Wick
This will be an early start – 6:30am at Solent Meads car park – when we will split into small groups and go onto Wick Fields where upwards of six species of warbler should be in song. If you are interested in coming along, please email Nick Whitehouse for more details.

Waders at Stanpit
Meet at 11:30 in the Stanpit car park to catch the waders on the rising tide. Please email David Taylor if you are coming along so we can ensure sufficient guides.

Members' Day at Hengistbury Head
Includes ringing demonstration and guided walk. From 06:30am at the HHVC. Ringing demonstration runs from 6:30 and a guided walk around starts at 8:30. f you are interested in coming along, please email Chris Chapleo for more details.
Sunday 25th November 2018
Meet at 9:00am by the Dorset Wildlife Trust Centre at Ferrybridge. We will use the latest information to make our exploration of several local birding sites – e.g. Portland, Radipole and Lodmoor – as interesting as possible. Binoculars recommended. Telescopes useful but the leaders – Nick Whitehouse & David Taylor - will have ‘scopes you can look through. Bring a packed lunch/snack, flask/drink and enough clothing for a winter’s day at the coast. We expect to conclude at 3:30pm at the latest, but feel free to leave earlier to suit your own schedule. Bring change for parking meters. Please contact Nick Whitehouse if you plan to come along. Free for members, but a £2.00 charge for non-members.
Sunday 16th December 2018
The final event of the year will be on our local patch. A walk to the end of Hengistbury Head to look for divers, scoters and waders, including Purple Sandpiper. On the way through the Wood, Firecrest will be a possibility. Meet at 9:00am by the Hengistbury Head Visitor Centre, where we will return by 11:30am. Binoculars recommended.
