Outdoor Meetings


The following events are scheduled, but some details may change. Please check this page in the run-up to events or confirm by emailing the organiser of each meeting.

Most meetings will last 2-3 hours, but please email the organiser if you require more exact timings.

The events are free to members, but there will be a £2.00 fee for non-members.

Sunday 16th December 2018
Hengistbury Head

The final event of the year will be on our local patch. A walk to the end of Hengistbury Head to look for divers, scoters and waders, including Purple Sandpiper. On the way through the Wood, Firecrest will be a possibility. Meet at 9:00am by the Hengistbury Head Visitor Centre, where we will return by 11:30am. Binoculars recommended. Telescopes useful but the leaders – Nick Whitehouse & David Taylor - will have ‘scopes you can look through. Please contact
Nick Whitehouse if you plan to come along. Free for members, but a £2.00 charge for non-members.

Poole Harbour (Holes Bay and Baiter Park)
A morning at our neighbouring harbour for plentiful waders and wildfowl. Meet in the main car park at Upton Country Park at 08:20. Location is off the A350 Upton bypass. We will walk along the bay perimeter track to Holes Bay and back, maximum two hours duration. Waders and wildfowl are the specialities here. For those that wish to stay on, we will then drive the short distance to Baiter Park, using Harbourside car park Number 1, for a stay of one hour. Here we will check for divers, grebes and sea duck.  Location of the car park is off Labrador Drive, Poole. Parking fees apply at both sites, so please bring some change. Sunday 3rd March 2019
Acres Down, New Forest
Meet at 8:00 at Acres Down car park - SU267096 – from where we will head into the woodland for an hour or so. After that, we will move onto higher ground and scan for raptors, such as Goshawk. Woodlark is also a possibility in that area. Depending on weather conditions and success, we will finish the event between 10:30 and 11:00. If you wish to come along, please email David Taylor.

Durlston Country Park
A morning’s coastal stroll to see the auks back on the cliffs and maybe Spring's first passerine arrivals. RV place and time to be announced early in March.


Sunday May 5th 2019
Hengistbury Head

Spring in full flow - warblers in song and passage waders around our very own coastal patch. Meet by HHVC at 08:00. Conclude by 11:30. More details later.

New Forest - Summer Highlights
Birds, butterflies and dragonflies. A half-day foray. No early start required. RV place and time to be announced early in June.
